The goal of esthetic crown lengthening is to re-shape the gums so that your smile is more balanced, pleasing and esthetic.Sometimes all that is needed is to remove some of the excess tissue which is covering up your natural tooth. Other times, in addition to removing the excess tissue, the bone needs to be re-shaped. The gum tissue will always rebound 3mm away from the bone level. It is this 3mm which forms a tight biologic seal around the tooth to prevent bacteria from getting down into the pockets and causing them to become infected. That is why simply removing the tissue in some patients will never work.If you are going to be doing some esthetic dental work with your general dentist (crowns, veneers) they may want our office to set the stage for their restorations. You will need to wait at least 6 weeks after the esthetic crown lengthening before you return to your general dentist. We want to make sure your tissue levels are stable for a long term esthetic result.

Dr. David has a wonderful chairside manner, just as his father did when I saw him many years ago. He made me feel very comfortable.

I would highly recommend Dr. Engen and his office staff to anyone whose child was apprehensive about having braces. Other than the high level of professionalism, I appreciate the down-play of cutsie-pie gimmicks for kids. He thoroughly explained everything to us right from the start.

Because of the internet information provided about his background and education, I feel I have a top level, up-to-date professional taking care of me.

State of the art care! I like the “get it right” attitude. After eight years I have not had one negative experience.

Dr. Engen was great! He explained my diagnosis and the procedure required thoroughly. I was even asked if I liked the colors of paint for the office.
