AcceleDent FAQWe hear a lot of questions about the remarkable new AcceleDent technology. If youhave any questions about your orthodontic treatment, or if you’re curious howAcceleDent can help speed up your orthodontic experience, contact our office!Q: How does AcceleDent work?A: By inserting the mouthpiece around your existing orthodontic appliance and wearing theactivator for 20 minutes every day, AcceleDent can speed up tooth movement through the use ofSoftPulse Technology™. Faster tooth movement may decrease the duration of your orthodontictreatment and can help make your orthodontic experience more comfortable.Q: Is AcceleDent safe?A: Yes! AcceleDent with SoftPulse Technology has been proven safe through US clinical trialsand is cleared by the FDA as a Class II medical device.Q: What is SoftPulse Technology and why is it important?A: Part of the way your orthodontic treatment works is by changing or remodeling the bonessurrounding your teeth. As this remodeling process is accelerated, your teeth move more quickly. That’s where AcceleDent comes in! By using tiny vibrations, or micropulses, SoftPulseTechnology speeds up bone remodeling and tooth movement.Q: How much time will AcceleDent reduce my treatment?A: Research has shown that tooth movement is accelerated by 106% during the initial phase oftreatment and up to 50% during the subsequent phase of treatment, potentially shorteningconventional orthodontic treatment time.Q: How do I know if I am biting into the mouthpiece correctly and with the right amount offorce?A: Bite pressure on the mouthpiece should be just firm enough to hold your AcceleDent in placewithout using your hands. Avoid biting forcibly into the mouthpiece, as that may cause excessivewear.Q: What is the best way to clean the AcceleDent device?A: The mouthpiece should be rinsed well with lukewarm water after each use. You mayoccasionally use a soft liquid dishwashing detergent, a mild soap, or toothpaste to gently brushthe mouthpiece. The activator can be wiped with a damp cloth as necessary. The metal contactsof the activator must be free of any dirt or residue and may be cleaned with a Q-Tip® as needed. It is recommended that you allow your AcceleDent to air dry before being stored in the TravelShell. Do not place the mouthpiece or the activator in a dishwasher, as this will void the warrantyand could cause damage to the product.Q: Can I use my AcceleDent in the shower or when sleeping?A: No. AcceleDent is not water resistant and should not be used in the shower. It is also notrecommended to use while sleeping.Q: Can I sanitize my AcceleDent and share it with a friend or family member who also hasbraces?A: No. AcceleDent is an FDA cleared, single-use prescription device. Sharing the AcceleDentand/or the mouthpiece is prohibited. Based upon your unique orthodontic treatment plan, yourorthodontist prescribed AcceleDent for your use only. Use of AcceleDent without thesupervision and direction of an orthodontist may result in adverse, unintended consequences.Q: If I use AcceleDent for more than the recommended 20 minute treatment time, does it addincremental benefit?A: No. Additional daily use greater than the prescribed 20 minutes duration is not recommended.Q: Is there some way that AcceleDent can “track” my usage?A: Yes. The amount of usage can then be observed on the smart display.Q: Can AcceleDent remind me to use it on a daily basis?A: No. AcceleDent is not designed to provide reminders. Dr. David has a wonderful chairside manner, just as his father did when I saw him many years ago. He made me feel very comfortable.

I would highly recommend Dr. Engen and his office staff to anyone whose child was apprehensive about having braces. Other than the high level of professionalism, I appreciate the down-play of cutsie-pie gimmicks for kids. He thoroughly explained everything to us right from the start.
Denise F.
Because of the internet information provided about his background and education, I feel I have a top level, up-to-date professional taking care of me.

Dr. Engen was great! He explained my diagnosis and the procedure required thoroughly. I was even asked if I liked the colors of paint for the office.
