If the dental crowding is mild or moderate, oftentimes we can employ mechanics which will allow us to do orthodontics without having to remove any teeth. Sometimes, however, if crowding is severe, or if there is a skeletal imbalance we may elect to do tooth extraction.I thought orthodontists didn’t do extractions anymore. For over 100 years orthodontists have fiercely debated whether to extract or not extract, and the pendulum has swung hard both ways a number of times. There are those who will not do tooth extraction no matter how much it is indicated, while there are others who will indiscriminately extract teeth on every patient who walks through the door. Our office rejects both extremes. Non-extraction is a treatment modality, not a treatment goal. We will remove teeth only when it is required. Will there be spaces left open?If extractions are done all spaces will be closed up.
Dr. David has a wonderful chairside manner, just as his father did when I saw him many years ago. He made me feel very comfortable.

I would highly recommend Dr. Engen and his office staff to anyone whose child was apprehensive about having braces. Other than the high level of professionalism, I appreciate the down-play of cutsie-pie gimmicks for kids. He thoroughly explained everything to us right from the start.

Because of the internet information provided about his background and education, I feel I have a top level, up-to-date professional taking care of me.

State of the art care! I like the “get it right” attitude. After eight years I have not had one negative experience.

Dr. Engen was great! He explained my diagnosis and the procedure required thoroughly. I was even asked if I liked the colors of paint for the office.
