If you are experiencing a periodontal emergency, your best bet is to call us. We are all here to serve you and your comfort is very important to us. Things to be concerned about include uncontrolled bleeding, uncontrolled pain, rash or an allergic reaction.
Frequently asked questions:“I have a lot of swelling.”Swelling is natural after any surgical procedure. Swelling usually peaks at 48 hours, and diminishes after that.“I get sick from the pain pills.”It is important to take any pain medication with food, otherwise you may get nauseated.“My connective tissue graft looks yellow/grey/reddish/ugly.”Connective tissue grafts tend to look worse before they look better. First of all, do not pull your lip out to view the graft as tension on the flaps can damage the healing process. Second, be patient. Your graft just needs to mature.“The roof of my mouth is bleeding a lot.”This is common after a connective tissue graft. One thing you may try is placing a moist tea bag on the wound with light pressure for five to fifteen minutes. The tannic acid in the tea bag will help form a clot to slow or stop the bleeding. You can expect the wound to slightly ooze for up to 24 hours.“I have loose stitches.”If the suture is very loose and hanging, you can clip it. Do not clip sutures, however, if it appears that they are still holding the surgical site together. For Dr. David Engen’s patients:Call Dr. Engen (Cellular) at 280-1152

Dr. David has a wonderful chairside manner, just as his father did when I saw him many years ago. He made me feel very comfortable.

I would highly recommend Dr. Engen and his office staff to anyone whose child was apprehensive about having braces. Other than the high level of professionalism, I appreciate the down-play of cutsie-pie gimmicks for kids. He thoroughly explained everything to us right from the start.

State of the art care! I like the “get it right” attitude. After eight years I have not had one negative experience.

Dr. Engen was great! He explained my diagnosis and the procedure required thoroughly. I was even asked if I liked the colors of paint for the office.
